Biography
Kenneth was born and raised in Kenya. At the age of 14, he was awarded first place in an annual fine art and essay environmental contest, organized by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W). He subsequently won first place in a different conservation themed art competition sponsored by the Kenya Wildlife Service (K.W.S), that same year. Both contests were open to students all over the country. Winners of both competitions were sent on a fully sponsored two week safari to the Masai Mara and Tsavo National Park in Kenya.
Kenneth’s family moved to Botswana where Kenneth attended high school. Upon graduating high school, he was awarded a scholarship to attend Art in the Mountains summer art workshop in Oregon, where he did some plein-air painting. The following year, he was awarded a scholarship to study at Western Oregon University. Upon graduation, he worked at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and later moved to New Mexico to pursue graduate studies.
He later relocated to Colorado where he worked at two startups as an email marketing specialist. Kenneth is now based in Phoenix, Arizona where he lives with his wife, Amie, and two cats.
Artist Statement
My work is an invitation for viewers to explore and examine connections between humanity and nature. I’m intrigued by the fleeting and unexpected moments within fauna and flora. In my paintings, I aspire to capture nuanced behavior and interaction of animals in the wild.
The endless possibilities of a white, blank canvas elicit in me joy and intrigue. More often than not, my concepts for any given painting stems from a repository of images that I have amassed over the years. Sieving through this myriad of photographic references, I juxtapose assorted imagery and explore a variety of compositions until I reach a gratifying end.
